Internet Marketing in 2011

Video, Mobile Apps, and Mobile Advertising

The Internet is alive!  It’s always changing, growing, and finding new creative ways of communication.  With 2011 weeks away, we at IABB decided to think about what to expect from the Internet and Internet Marketing in 2011.  This is what we came up with:

Let the Video Transition Begin

With websites such as YouTube and all the advertising capabilities of Google (here’s a cool video about how Google can advertise videos), videos are becoming easier and more accessible for businesses to create, publish, and profit.

In 2011, we expect to see businesses invest more into video advertising and start to transition TV advertising to online video advertising.  Here’s a video by Daisy Whitney on ReelSEO.com that discusses why online video is starting to look a lot like TV.  Another reason we will see more time and energy spent on video advertising in 2011, is the fact that production costs are beginning to decrease and become affordable for businesses.  There are more independent video producers that can create high quality video that equals the production value of the larger video makers.

It’s going to be a great year to put your business on video.

Mobile Apps Confusion

In recent years, the iPhone has dominated the mobile applications market.  Businesses have spent thousands of dollars to develop the right iPhone application to reach all of those iPhone users in the world…but…Droid and Windows Phone is here and it doesn’t look like they are going away.  They are not only here, they are thriving.  All three mobile operating systems are different and a use different programming language, which means an application that was developed for the iPhone would need to be redeveloped to work on the Droid and Windows Phone operating systems.  So what will businesses do now?

We still have to work that issue out. But to learn more about the differences, here’s a good article by Taimur Asad called “iPhone OS 4 vs Android 2.2 vs Windows Phone 7 – The Inevitable Comparison”

Mobile Advertising

Mobile phones are smarter and more people have them.  Advertisers are trying to figure out how to productively reach consumers on their phones without becoming too intrusive.  The scales will balance out in 2011.  With more bandwidth feeding these genius phones (I just made up that term), the phone users will be looking at more and more content from their mobile devices.  Videos, searches, or just good old fashioned web surfing will move from the desktops and laptops to the mobile devices…along with the advertising.
